Professor Gerard Hastings is the Director of the Institute for Social Marketing and Centre for Tobacco Control based at Stirling University.
Speakers abstract - Realising Our Potential
The move to smokefree public places in Wales provides an ideal platform for planning future tobacco control strategy. This presentation will use a social marketing perspective to examine the opportunities the legislation presents and how these can be developed into a coherent strategic plan. In particular, it will argue that tobacco control can deliver enormous benefits in the fight against inequalities.
Social marketing ideas discussed will include:
- Competitive analysis
- Consumer orientation
- Branding
- Relationship building
- Navigational research
These will be used to devise a plan for tobacco control with the strategic aim of making our whole society, not just our public places, smokefree by 2040.
