Abstract Title: The function of point of sale promotional tobacco pack displays and what happens when they are removed?
In countries where tobacco advertising and promotion bans are in place, point of sale promotional displays remain one of the main channels for tobacco marketing. In many countries such as the UK, point of sale displays have grown in prominence and size in recent years, and are frequently situated in a prime position behind cashiers. This presentation will examine the evidence base for the impact of point of sale displays and their removal, including data from Ireland where a point of sale ban was introduced in July 2009.
Author Biography:
Ann McNeill has worked in the tobacco control field for 25 years. She is currently Professor of Health Policy & Promotion at the University of Nottingham and is Deputy Director of the UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies. Ann has published widely on tobacco control research and policy.
