Julie BarrattDirector CIEH Wales

Julie Barratt qualified as a Public Health Inspector in 1981, with a BSc Environmental Health from Ulster Polytechnic, and practised in Belfast, Basildon and Torfaen as a food hygiene, health and safety and health education specialist. During 1989-92 she read law and proceeded to the Inns of Court School of Law in 1992, being called to the Bar in 1993. She practised law until taking up her present post.

As Director CIEH Wales she is responsible for facilitating direct liaison with the National Assembly for Wales, local authorities and non-governmental organisations within Wales, promoting and representing Chartered Institute of Environmental Health policies in a Welsh Context, as well as raising the profile of environmental health within the Principality. She has been conected with a number of high profile campaigns, including the ban on smoking in public places, the trade against illegal meat and latterly the campaign against unmanned sun tanning facilities. In 2009 she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.
